I too still value an artful cover, even though I choose books for other reasons, too. Once in awhile there is an opportunity to simply browse, and good covers are candy then. Yours looks great. The falling dominoes begin to create a sense of interconnectedness and uh-oh: suspense before the first paragraph!
I'm in the midst of redesigning book covers for my first few books, and so I can relate to the headspace you're in right now. We've all heard the saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover," and while we shouldn't metaphorically do so with people, it's exactly what we should do with actual book covers. A good cover (like yours) gives the potential reader clues about the genre, style, and story. Best of luck with your publishing endeavors!

Thank you! I appreciate your thoughts on this. Agree, they still have value, even if that value is different these days.
Your cover looks great! Though I typically choose books based on reviews or recommendations.
Insightful post.
Thanks man!
Well written take on the value of book covers. Cheers.
Thanks a lot, Michael!

Appreciate the comment, MJ, and totally agree. Thanks for reading---and for the kind words. Best of luck with your own cover process!
