Great writing here. At one point near the end I remember thinking, man, AB got that tankless never run out of hot water set up. Cool manipulation of time throughout. Speaking of which…
What prison does to time has always fascinated me. And how those serving treat it at various points in their sentence. I suspect something like a timed phone call really fucks with your mind. The old adage, “in prison all you have is time” feels like a whole lotta BS when you’ve only got 10 minutes to talk to a loved one.
Respect for all the work you do with folks who are serving time. Wish I could be at the event in CG on Thursday. Best of luck on it. I’m sure it’ll be great.
Yo… so much I want to say on this… to this… I had such a unique experience in jail… in prison… but I won’t say anything… only that this is dope… thank you for sharing.
Wait -- I didn't realize this about requesting phone calls! They really are like mix tapes. I supported an ex through his incarceration and used to tape our calls with TapeACall. There was no feeling more excruciating than realizing I'd missed a call, especially if the facility then went on lockdown. I also had very strong feelings about the operator I nicknamed the "One Minute Lady," who would unceremoniously cut us off.
Thank you for being brave and keeping it real and writing about prison. Truly appreciate the work you do
Thank you bro!
Needed this today
I'm glad it hit you at the right moment. Thank you for reading, Alexa

Mixtapes is an even better description. Thank you, Alicia!
Liked this a lot. What do you think of those authors who try to revise their earlier books?
Thanks, Doug! I could never do it. But I understand the impulse.
This was fascinating- thank you
